Status update: Reclaim.ai was acquired by Dropbox in August 2024 and is still sold as a standalone product at reclaim.ai.
Motion and Reclaim are usually compared as “AI calendars”: tools that take your tasks, meetings and routines and fit them into your week automatically. That framing is now only half right. Motion has grown into an all-in-one work app that bundles projects, docs, a meeting notetaker and AI chat around its auto-scheduler. Reclaim has stayed focused on the calendar you already have in Google or Outlook, and since August 2024 it has been owned by Dropbox.
This comparison is for developers, tech leads and small teams deciding whether they want a new system to plan work in (Motion) or a layer that defends focus time and meetings on top of their existing tools (Reclaim). It is part of our hub on the AI productivity stack for developers and tech teams.
This is an editorial research article. It is based on Motion’s and Reclaim’s pricing pages, product pages, security pages, help documentation and changelogs, plus TechCrunch’s report on the Dropbox acquisition. We did not run our own scheduling tests or benchmarks.
Quick verdict
Choose Reclaim if you want to keep Jira, Linear, Asana or Todoist as your task system and simply need focus time, habits, buffers and meeting times managed in Google Calendar or Outlook. It has a free plan and lower per-seat prices. Choose Motion if you want to replace several tools with one AI workspace where projects, tasks and the calendar are planned together, and you accept a higher seat price, a credit-metered AI layer and no free plan. In our assessment, most engineering teams that already run sprints in an issue tracker will find Reclaim the less disruptive fit.

Product scope: suite or layer
Motion’s homepage now describes “AI Projects, AI Tasks, AI Calendar, AI Meetings, AI Docs, AI Notes, AI Reports, AI Workflows, and more.” The auto-scheduler is still the core idea. Motion takes your tasks with their priorities, dependencies, deadlines and durations, builds a schedule around your meetings, and re-plans as things change. It warns you when a task is at risk of missing its deadline. Around that it adds a project manager that can generate a project from a description, a docs and wiki editor, a meeting notetaker, dashboards, Gantt charts and an AI chat assistant. If you adopt Motion fully, it replaces your task manager and possibly your docs tool too.
Reclaim deliberately does less. It works on top of your existing calendar and creates flexible events that move when your week changes. These include Focus Time against a weekly goal, Habits for recurring routines, Tasks scheduled into open time, Buffer Time after calls, and Smart Meetings that find the best slot across attendees. Scheduling Links handle external booking. Recent additions listed in its changelog include Team OOO calendars (April 2026) and custom Slack out-of-office auto-replies (June 2026). It does not try to be your project tool. Instead it pulls tasks from the tools your team already uses.
For a software team, that difference decides most of the choice. Reclaim fits alongside the issue tracker you picked from our guide to project management software for software teams. Motion asks you to move planning into Motion.
How the scheduling works day to day
In Motion, you mainly manage tasks and projects, and the calendar is the output. You give each task a duration, a deadline and a priority, and Motion decides when it happens. Its homepage calls this “Do Date ≠ Due Date”. The benefit is a single, constantly updated plan for a person or a team. The cost is that the plan is only as good as the estimates and priorities you enter, and the schedule changes whenever something new lands.
In Reclaim, you manage policies: how much focus time you want, which hours habits can use, how much buffer after meetings, and which meetings are flexible. Reclaim’s AI agents then defend those blocks. Its free Lite plan includes five agents (Focus Time, Habits, Buffer Time, Smart Meeting and Meeting Quality), and paid plans raise the agent count. How far ahead Reclaim schedules depends on the plan: 1 week on Lite, 8 weeks on Starter and 12 weeks on Business and Enterprise. In our assessment, this policy-driven model gives you a calendar you still recognise. Motion’s task-driven model is better suited to people who want the machine to decide the order of the day.
Calendars, integrations and developer tooling
Motion connects to Google Calendar, Outlook and iCloud Calendar. It lists integrations with Gmail, Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Slack, HubSpot, Salesforce, Zapier and Siri, and it offers an API for creating and updating projects and tasks. You can link it to other tools through an automation platform. Our Zapier vs Make vs n8n comparison covers how those platforms bill.
Reclaim supports Google Calendar and Outlook. Its help center now describes Outlook support as fully available, but it lists real gaps compared with Google. Delegated and shared Outlook calendars are not supported yet, hosted or on-premise Exchange accounts are not supported, and there is no Outlook Tasks or Microsoft Teams status integration. Attendees can also receive many update notices when Smart Meetings move. On the task side, Reclaim’s free plan covers Google Tasks, Slack, Zoom and Google Meet, and paid plans add Todoist, Asana, ClickUp, Jira and Linear. Business adds webhooks. Reclaim also lists a Raycast integration, which is handy if you use the launcher covered in our Raycast AI review.
AI usage and what it costs
Motion meters its AI with credits. Pro AI includes 7,500 credits per seat per month and Business AI includes 15,000. Motion’s pricing page does not explain how many credits each AI action uses or what happens when you run out, so ask Motion before you rely on heavy AI chat, document drafting or notetaker use. That uncertainty is the main reason Motion’s monthly cost is harder to predict than Reclaim’s.
Reclaim does not sell AI usage by volume. Plans differ by the number of AI agents (5 on Lite, 10 per seat on Starter, 100 per seat on Business, unlimited on Enterprise), by the scheduling horizon and by how many calendar syncs and scheduling links you get. Its newer AI Assistant lets you chat with your schedule. One pricing detail to plan for: Smart Meetings with three or more attendees who do not hold paid seats need “Attendee User” add-on packs. Reclaim’s pricing page still mentions a launch offer making these packs free “through July 31st”, so check the current terms before you buy.
Ownership, privacy and security
Reclaim announced on August 20, 2024 that it “has been acquired by Dropbox”, and said that “no changes to pricing or support are planned”. TechCrunch reported that Reclaim’s whole 22-person team joined Dropbox and that the terms were not disclosed. The product is still sold and developed under the Reclaim brand at reclaim.ai, and its changelog shows releases through June 2026. Reclaim’s security page says it requests permissions “just-in-time”, is SOC 2 Type II certified, and encrypts data at rest with AES-256. It also says it holds events from secondary calendars connected for Calendar Sync only in memory rather than storing them, and that self-service deletion wipes calendar data within an hour.
Motion’s security page says NexusBird, Inc. (dba Motion) completed a SOC 2 Type II audit, that all databases are encrypted at rest and that traffic uses TLS. A security kit with the SOC 2 report is available on request. Motion’s public pages we reviewed do not explain in detail which AI model providers process your data or whether that data is used for training. Teams with strict data policies should ask for that in writing.
Pricing compared (as of October 2026)
Prices are shown in US dollars, per seat per month, before any applicable tax. Annual prices are billed upfront for the year.
| Plan | Billed monthly | Billed annually | Key inclusions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reclaim Lite | Free | Free | 1 user, 5 AI agents, 1-week scheduling range, 1 calendar sync, 1 scheduling link |
| Reclaim Starter | $12 | $10 | Up to 10 seats, 10 agents per seat, 8-week range, 3 calendar syncs and links, all task integrations |
| Reclaim Business | $18 | $15 | Up to 100 seats, 100 agents per seat, 12-week range, Team OOO calendar, delegated access, webhooks |
| Reclaim Enterprise | Not offered monthly | $22 | 100+ seats, SSO and SCIM, unlimited agents |
| Motion Pro AI (Teams) | $29 | $19 | AI tasks, projects, calendar, docs, notes and chat; 7,500 credits per seat per month |
| Motion Business AI (Teams) | $49 | $29 | Adds capacity planning, dashboards, Gantt, time tracking, permissions; 15,000 credits per seat per month |
| Motion Pro AI (Individuals) | $49 | $29 | Same features as Pro AI, on the Individuals tab |
| Motion Business AI (Individuals) | $69 | $39 | Same features as Business AI, on the Individuals tab |
Caveats: Motion’s page shows separate Individuals and Teams tabs with different per-seat prices. It offers a free trial but no free plan, and it does not state the trial length on the pricing page. Reclaim advertises a 14-day free trial. When we checked, its site also showed a “today-only” 30% new-user discount on Starter and Business and a separate 20% discount code. Treat both as promotional, because the regular prices above are what renew. Attendee User packs for larger Smart Meetings cost extra. Reclaim pricing · Motion pricing

Which should you choose?
- Pick Reclaim if your tasks already live in Jira, Linear, Asana, ClickUp or Todoist and you want focus time and meetings arranged around them. Also pick it if you want a capable free tier, or you need to keep per-seat cost low across a team. Check the Outlook limitations first if your company runs on Exchange. Visit Reclaim
- Pick Motion if you want one AI workspace for projects, tasks, docs and the calendar, and you like the idea of the scheduler deciding the order of your day. Confirm how credits are consumed, since Motion’s page does not say. Motion also suits people who manage many client projects and want capacity planning built into the same tool. Visit Motion
- Pick neither if your main need is shared documentation with light AI help. A workspace such as Notion, reviewed in our review of Notion’s built-in AI, may cover planning well enough without an auto-scheduler.
FAQ
Is Reclaim still a separate product after the Dropbox acquisition?
Yes, as of October 2026. Reclaim is still sold at reclaim.ai under its own brand and pricing, and its changelog shows new features in 2026. Reclaim said at the time of the deal that it planned no changes to pricing or support. We found no announcement that it will be folded into another Dropbox product.
Does Motion still have a free plan?
No. Motion’s pricing page lists only paid plans (Pro AI and Business AI) and offers a free trial. If you need a free automatic scheduler, Reclaim’s Lite plan is the closer option, with a one-week scheduling horizon.
Can either tool schedule work from Jira or Linear?
Reclaim can. Jira and Linear task integrations are included on its paid plans and turn issues into scheduled task blocks. Motion lists many integrations and an API, but Jira and Linear are not among the integrations named on the Motion pages we reviewed. Ask Motion, or plan to connect them through an automation platform or the API.
