Hostinger is best known for very low introductory hosting prices, but its 2026 line-up has a lot for developers too. Shared and cloud plans include SSH and Git deployment from GitHub or GitLab. Higher tiers add managed Node.js apps. KVM VPS plans come with full root access and a public API. There is also a growing set of command-line and AI-assistant tools aimed at people who deploy from their editor. This review looks at Hostinger from that developer angle: what you can run, how you deploy it, and the limits and billing terms worth knowing before you prepay for years.
If you only want a drag-and-drop site, our separate Hostinger Website Builder review covers that product. If you are comparing hosts more broadly, our roundup of web hosting for developers sets Hostinger against managed cloud, VPS and platform-as-a-service options.
This is an editorial research article based on Hostinger’s pricing and product pages, its support articles and its refund policy. We did not run our own speed or uptime tests. Where we mention performance, the claim is Hostinger’s and is labelled that way.
Quick verdict
For a developer on a tight budget, Hostinger offers a lot per dollar in the first term. You get SSH, Git deploys and Node.js on managed plans, plus root-access VPS servers with generous RAM for the price. The catch is the billing model. The headline rates assume you prepay a long term (48 months on web and cloud plans), and renewals are several times higher. Shared plans also have hard resource ceilings, such as inode counts and PHP workers. In our assessment it is a good value pick if you accept the long prepayment and stay within the documented limits. If you want month-to-month flexibility, look elsewhere.
- Pro: SSH access on every current web hosting plan, and Git deploys from GitHub or GitLab with automatic redeploys.
- Pro: Managed Node.js “web apps” on the Unlimited and Cloud Startup plans, with no usage-based billing.
- Pro: KVM VPS plans with full root, NVMe storage, a public API and weekly backups included.
- Pro: 30-day refund window on most hosting, with conditions.
- Con: The lowest prices need a 48-month prepayment, and renewal prices are roughly 3x to 4x the introductory rate.
- Con: Shared plans cap inodes, PHP workers, databases, RAM and CPU. “Unlimited” features fall under a Fair Usage Policy.
- Con: On a VPS you administer the operating system yourself, and VPS snapshots expire after one day.
What is Hostinger?
Hostinger is a web hosting company that sells shared web hosting, managed WordPress hosting, “cloud” hosting, KVM VPS servers, agency plans, domains and email. It also has an AI website builder. Everything is managed from its own control panel, hPanel, rather than cPanel.
The product names matter for developers. Hostinger’s web hosting plans (Premium and Unlimited) are shared plans with fixed resource limits. Its cloud hosting plans, starting with Cloud Startup, are still fully managed through hPanel, but with more dedicated resources and a dedicated IP. Hostinger’s own FAQ describes them as offering “more resources than shared hosting, but less control than VPS”. Its VPS plans are virtual servers with root access where you choose the operating system, control panel or one-click application template.
Key features
SSH and Git deployment on shared and cloud plans
Hostinger’s support documentation says SSH is available on Premium Web and higher plans, but not on the older Single plan. You enable it in hPanel and copy the connection command from there. Hostinger’s support article describes Git deployment that connects GitHub or GitLab through OAuth, with no SSH key setup required; its developer docs also describe a Hostinger GitHub App and a legacy SSH deploy-key method for other Git hosts. You pick a repository, branch and root directory (public_html by default) and deploy. Hostinger’s docs say automatic deployment is on by default, so merges into the deploy branch trigger a new deployment, and you can switch it off. No build step runs. Git integration covers custom PHP and HTML sites (including WordPress code) on web and cloud plans. It does not cover AI Builder sites, and Node.js apps use a separate flow.
Managed Node.js web apps
Hostinger markets Node.js hosting from $3.99/month, which is the Unlimited plan’s 48-month introductory rate. Its plan-limits support article lists five Node.js websites on Unlimited and ten on Cloud Startup; Premium does not include Node.js. You can deploy from GitHub, upload a ZIP, or use Hostinger’s editor connector. Hostinger lists frameworks including Next.js, React, Vite, Vue, Nuxt, Express, NestJS, Fastify, Angular and SvelteKit. Managed MySQL, a one-click Supabase connection, daily backups, CDN, WAF and an AI troubleshooter that reads build logs are included in the flat price. That flat pricing is a real difference from usage-billed platforms. The trade-off is that you work within the plan’s fixed RAM and CPU.
KVM VPS with root access
VPS plans run on AMD EPYC processors with NVMe storage. They come with full root access, a 1 Gbps network port, firewall management, Wanguard DDoS filtering and weekly automatic backups. You can choose plain Linux distributions (such as Debian or AlmaLinux), control panels such as CloudPanel, or templates including Docker with Traefik, n8n, PostgreSQL, Uptime Kuma and VS Code Server. Hostinger says it has 10 VPS data center locations across four continents and lets you move a VPS between them.
API, CLI and AI-assistant tooling
Hostinger publishes a public API, an API CLI, PHP, Python and TypeScript SDKs, an API MCP server and a “Hostinger Connector” that lets AI coding tools such as Cursor or Claude Code manage hosting and deployments. VPS plans add an AI web terminal that accepts natural-language commands. These are useful for scripting and agent-driven workflows. As with any tool that can change production servers, scope its permissions carefully.
Backups and snapshots
Premium includes weekly backups. Unlimited and Cloud Startup include daily backups, and Cloud Startup adds on-demand backups. On VPS, weekly backups are automatic, daily backups are a paid upgrade, and up to four backups are kept (two daily, two weekly). Hostinger’s support article says a VPS snapshot is manual, only one can exist at a time, and it expires after one day. That makes snapshots a quick checkpoint before a risky change, not a backup strategy.
Who should use Hostinger
Hostinger suits solo developers and small teams who want cheap, managed PHP or WordPress hosting with SSH and Git. It suits people who want to run a few small Node.js apps without usage-based bills. It also suits anyone comfortable administering Linux who wants a lot of VPS RAM for a low first-term price, for example to self-host n8n, a database or Docker services. It works best when you are confident you will keep the plan for the full prepaid term.
Who should skip Hostinger
Skip Hostinger if you want to pay month to month at the advertised rate, or if a three- to four-fold renewal increase would wreck your budget. Skip it if you need autoscaling or serverless-style pricing, or if your app regularly exceeds shared-plan limits on PHP workers or file counts. If you want root-level control without the long prepayment, an hourly-billed cloud VPS is a closer fit. Our comparison of hourly-billed VPS providers covers those. If you want managed servers billed by the hour, see our Cloudways review.
Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- Low first-term cost. The Unlimited plan’s 48-month deal works out to $191.52 upfront for unlimited websites, 50 GB NVMe storage and five Node.js apps.
- Modern deploy flow on shared hosting. OAuth-based Git with auto-deploy is simpler than the SSH-key, pull-only setups many shared hosts still use.
- Generous VPS specs for the price. KVM 2 lists 2 vCPU, 8 GB RAM and 100 GB NVMe at $8.99/month in the first term.
- Developer tooling. A public API, CLI, SDKs and MCP connector are unusual at this price point.
Limitations
- Long terms and large renewals. Premium goes from $2.99 to $10.99/month at renewal, Unlimited from $3.99 to $16.99, and Cloud Startup from $7.99 to $25.99. All plans are paid upfront.
- Hard shared-hosting ceilings. Premium allows 400,000 inodes, 40 PHP workers, 10 databases, 2 GB RAM and 1 CPU core. Unlimited raises that to 600,000 inodes, 60 workers, 150 databases, 3 GB RAM and 2 cores. “Unlimited” websites and bandwidth are subject to Hostinger’s Fair Usage Policy.
- VPS is self-administered. Root access means security updates, hardening and monitoring are your job, even with the AI terminal to help.
- Refund conditions. The refund policy refunds a VPS only if more than 180 days have passed since your last VPS refund, excludes KVM VPS upgrades, GPU hosting and some credits (including AI Builder and Hostinger credits), and may deduct the value of a “free” domain from a hosting refund.
- Limited snapshot retention. VPS snapshots expire after one day, and daily VPS backups cost extra.

Prices are in USD and exclude applicable taxes. Hostinger says all plans are paid upfront, and the monthly figure is the total divided by the number of months. The VPS page quotes renewals “for 2 years” but does not state the term required for the introductory VPS rate, so check the term in the cart before paying. Promotional prices change often. Use cases
Client WordPress and PHP sites with Git
Unlimited or Cloud Startup can host many small sites with SSH, WP-CLI-style workflows and auto-deploys from GitHub. Keep an eye on the inode and PHP-worker limits as the site count grows.
Small Node.js apps and APIs at a flat price
A side project or internal tool on Next.js or Express fits the managed web-app model well, especially if you want to avoid surprise usage bills. Our comparison of Vercel, Netlify and Cloudflare Pages covers the usage-billed alternatives.
Self-hosted tools on a VPS
The VPS templates make it quick to stand up n8n, PostgreSQL, Docker services or monitoring tools with root control. Budget for the renewal price, not the first-term rate.
Alternatives
- Cloudways: managed cloud servers billed hourly with no long prepayment, but no root and a higher price per GB of RAM. See our in-depth Cloudways review.
- DigitalOcean, Vultr or Hetzner: hourly or monthly VPS billing with no multi-year terms, compared in our VPS face-off.
- SiteGround and other shared hosts: if you are weighing Hostinger against SiteGround or similar hosts, our SiteGround alternatives guide sets their terms side by side.
Not sure whether you need shared, cloud or a VPS at all? Our explainer on choosing between shared, VPS, cloud and managed hosting walks through the trade-offs.
Final verdict
Hostinger is a credible developer host in 2026, not just a cheap one. SSH, OAuth Git deploys, flat-priced Node.js apps, root-access VPS plans and a real API cover most small-project needs. The decision hinges on billing. If you are happy to prepay up to four years and plan around the renewal price, it is good value. If you need short commitments, autoscaling or room beyond shared-plan ceilings, the alternatives above fit better. Use the 30-day refund window to test your actual deploy workflow, and read the refund conditions first.
FAQ
Does Hostinger support SSH and Git on shared hosting?
Yes. Hostinger’s support docs say SSH is available on Premium Web and higher plans, and Git deployment from GitHub or GitLab works on web and cloud hosting plans for PHP, WordPress and static sites.
Can I host Node.js on Hostinger without a VPS?
Yes. The Unlimited plan includes five Node.js websites and Cloud Startup includes ten, according to Hostinger’s plan-limits support article. For anything needing custom system packages or long-running background services outside those limits, a VPS is the more flexible choice.
Is Hostinger VPS managed?
Hostinger provides the platform, backups, firewall tools and an AI terminal, but you get full root access and choose the OS. In practice that means you are responsible for server-level administration.
