Status update: On May 13, 2026 Webflow merged its CMS and Business Site plans into a new Premium plan, raised Basic pricing, launched the Team plan and added AI credits. Existing sites migrate at renewal on or after June 29, 2026 (November 16, 2026 for Freelancer/Agency Workspaces and some legacy pricing).
Webflow is a visual website builder for people who think in HTML and CSS. It is aimed at designers who want real control over layout and responsive behaviour, at marketing teams who need a CMS without a developer for every change, and at developers and agencies who build those sites for clients. You work on a canvas that maps closely to the box model, classes and flexbox or grid, and Webflow hosts the result.
This review helps you decide whether Webflow is worth paying for after its May 2026 pricing overhaul. It explains how Site plans and Workspace plans fit together, what the CMS limits are, what code export leaves out, and what the newer developer features add. If you are still comparing whole categories of tools, start with our overview of website builders for technical teams.
This is an editorial research review based on Webflow’s pricing page, Help Center, developer documentation and official blog, checked on October 17, 2026. We did not build test sites or run our own benchmarks, so there are no speed or uptime measurements here.
Quick verdict
In our assessment, Webflow remains a strong visual builder for marketing and content-heavy brand sites, especially if your designers already think in CSS. Its 2026 pricing is simpler on paper, with one Premium plan replacing the old CMS and Business plans, but the real cost depends on stacking a Site plan, a Workspace plan, seats, AI credits and add-ons. Developers get more hooks than before (React code components, Webflow Cloud, APIs and an MCP server), but CMS content still cannot leave through code export, so plan for some lock-in.
- Pro: Fine-grained visual control over layout, classes and interactions, including a GSAP-powered interactions editor.
- Pro: The Premium Site plan now includes 20,000 CMS items and 40 Collections, without the old CMS item add-ons.
- Pro: Real developer extension points: React code components via DevLink, Webflow Cloud for Next.js, Astro and Vite apps, REST APIs and an MCP server.
- Pro: Managed hosting with SSL, a global CDN, automatic backups and DDoS protection included in every paid Site plan.
- Con: Pricing has many moving parts: Site plan, Workspace plan, extra seats, AI credits, bandwidth, Localize, Analyze and Optimize are all billed separately.
- Con: Code export needs a paid Workspace plan and leaves out CMS content, forms, search, localization, code components and Ecommerce data.
- Con: Premium includes 50 GB of bandwidth, half of what the old Business plan included, so higher-traffic sites need paid bandwidth add-ons.
- Con: Workflow features many teams expect, such as single-page publishing and page branching, sit on the Team plan, which starts at $2,500 a month on an annual contract.
What is Webflow?
Webflow is a hosted, closed-source platform that combines a visual designer, a CMS, managed hosting and, optionally, ecommerce. It now calls itself an “agentic web marketing platform”, and most 2026 launches target marketing teams: AI credits, answer-engine optimization (AEO) agents, analytics and A/B testing.
Billing has two layers. A Site plan is bought per site and covers hosting, a custom domain, CMS limits and bandwidth. A Workspace plan covers the people and staging side: seats, the number of unhosted staging sites, AI credits, Shared Libraries and code export. Every account gets a free Starter Workspace, and Workspaces come in two families, one for in-house teams (Core, Growth) and one for freelancers and agencies (Freelancer, Agency).
On May 13, 2026 Webflow merged its CMS and Business Site plans into a single Premium plan, raised the Basic plan price, added the Team plan and introduced AI credits. New purchases moved to the new prices immediately. Existing sites move at their next renewal or billable change on or after June 29, 2026, or on or after November 16, 2026 for sites in Freelancer or Agency Workspaces and some legacy pricing.
Key features
Visual Designer and interactions
The Designer exposes the web’s layout model directly: elements, classes and combo classes, breakpoints, variables and components. Interactions can be built in the original “Classic” editor or the newer timeline editor powered by GSAP. This control is why designers pick Webflow over template builders, and why it takes longer to learn.
CMS
Collections hold structured content such as blog posts or case studies, each with a template page. On Premium you get 20,000 items and 40 Collections. The Team plan raises Collections to 100 and documents 100 fields and 20 reference fields per Collection. The CMS APIs allow 60 requests per minute on Starter, 120 on Premium and 600 on Team, which matters when syncing content from another system.
Hosting
Every paid Site plan includes SSL/TLS, a global CDN, automatic backups and DDoS and bot protection. Webflow’s hosting page says the infrastructure combines AWS with Cloudflare’s CDN. Formal uptime terms are tied to the top plans: the pricing page lists a 99.00% hosting uptime SLA on Team and 99.99% on Enterprise. Bandwidth is metered per site, and Webflow says two consecutive months over the limit trigger an automatic plan upgrade.
Developer extensions: code components, Webflow Cloud, APIs and MCP
Code components are React components, imported from your own repository through DevLink or generated with AI, that designers can place on the canvas with props, slots and variants. Webflow Cloud deploys Next.js, Astro, Vite or plain static apps from a GitHub repository, with branch-based deployments, and can mount them on your Webflow site’s domain, with SQLite, key-value and object storage. The MCP server lets agents in tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or Codex create elements, styles, components and CMS content through Webflow’s APIs. Webflow lists clear limits: one Workspace per authorization, no new site creation through MCP, and no editing of Classic interactions.
Webflow AI
Webflow AI can generate a starting site from a prompt, design sections from your existing design system, write copy, generate code components and CMS items, and audit SEO and AEO. Since May 2026 these features draw on AI credits: 200 a month on the free Starter Workspace, 300 on Core or Freelancer and 400 on Growth or Agency. Extra credits are sold as an add-on. Some AI features on Starter sites need a paid Workspace.
Code export
On paid Workspace plans you can export HTML, CSS, JavaScript and assets as a ZIP file, with no attribution required. The Help Center is explicit about what does not come with it: CMS content, user accounts, Ecommerce data, code components and localized content are not included. Collection lists show their empty state, password protection stops working, and site search and forms do not work on exported sites. Export is useful for handing off a static marketing page or keeping a backup of your design. It is not a migration path for a CMS-driven site.
Who should use Webflow
Webflow fits teams whose website is a marketing asset that changes often: startups and SaaS companies with a designer on staff, agencies building custom brand sites, and content teams who want structured CMS content with a visual editor. Developers benefit when they can hand marketing a system of components and stay out of day-to-day page changes, while still using React code components, Webflow Cloud or the APIs for the parts that need code. If you are deciding between Webflow and an open-source CMS, our comparison of Webflow and WordPress goes through the trade-offs in detail.
Who should skip Webflow
Skip Webflow if you need full ownership of your stack, if your content model is very large or relational, or if you need complex application logic inside the CMS. Skip it too if your budget is tight and your needs are simple: a one-page site, a basic portfolio or a small business brochure can be built with less cost and learning time elsewhere, as our guide to portfolio site builders for developers and designers shows. Teams that need branch-based staging and per-page publishing but cannot justify the Team plan’s price will find the self-serve plans limiting.
Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- Design control. CSS-level styling, components, variables and GSAP interactions without hand-writing front-end code.
- A more generous CMS on Premium. 20,000 items and 40 Collections are included at the same Premium price.
- Managed infrastructure. No servers, plugin updates or SSL renewals to handle, and Webflow lists SOC 2 Type II compliance on its hosting page.
- A growing developer surface. Code components, Webflow Cloud, CMS and data APIs, and an MCP server for AI agents.
Limitations
- Layered pricing. A realistic team bill combines a Site plan, a Workspace plan, extra seats ($39 a month per full seat billed yearly) and any add-ons.
- Lock-in. CMS content, forms and dynamic features do not survive code export. Moving away means rebuilding those parts.
- Bandwidth costs at scale. Premium includes 50 GB. Going to 500 GB adds $174 a month billed yearly or $260 billed monthly, according to the pricing page.
- Self-serve workflow gaps. Page branching, single-page publishing and publishing workflows are Team or Enterprise features.
- Learning curve. The Designer rewards CSS knowledge. Non-technical editors usually need a designer to set up components first.
Pricing (as of October 2026)
All prices are in USD from Webflow’s pricing page and exclude taxes, which are added at checkout. Site plans are per site. The first figure is the monthly price when billed yearly. The figure in brackets is the price on monthly billing.

Extra full seats cost $39 a month billed yearly ($45 monthly) and limited seats $15 ($19 monthly). Webflow notes that if you switch an existing monthly site to yearly billing before the new pricing applies to it, you keep your current plan for one more year. See Webflow’s current pricing

Final verdict
Webflow remains a strong choice when a website is a living marketing product and you have someone who can design in it. The May 2026 changes help content-heavy sites, since 20,000 CMS items are now included in Premium, but they hurt high-traffic sites through the lower bandwidth allowance, and they add AI credit metering. Before you commit, add up the full bill (Site plan, Workspace, seats and add-ons) and accept that CMS content stays on Webflow. If those two points work for you, the free Starter plan is a low-risk way to test whether the Designer suits your team.
FAQ
Do I need both a Site plan and a Workspace plan?
Not always. Every account includes a free Starter Workspace, so a solo owner can buy just a Site plan to publish on a custom domain. You need a paid Workspace for more staging sites, extra collaboration controls, Shared Libraries or code export.
Can I move a Webflow site to my own hosting?
Only partly. Code export gives you static HTML, CSS, JavaScript and images, but CMS content, forms, site search, localization and code components do not work on exported sites. A CMS-driven site has to be rebuilt on its new platform, with the content exported separately.
When do Webflow AI credits reset, and what happens if I run out?
Credits reset monthly on self-serve Workspace plans and yearly on Team and Enterprise, according to Webflow. Only some AI features use them, and add-on credits can be bought at any time.
