Webflow is a capable visual builder, but it is not the right fit for every site or budget. After its May 2026 pricing overhaul, a realistic Webflow bill can combine a Site plan, a Workspace plan, extra seats, AI credits and add-ons, and CMS content still cannot leave the platform through code export. That pushes many teams to look around.

This guide is for developers, designers, founders and agencies who want a Webflow alternative for a marketing site, portfolio, blog or client project. It covers six options across price points, from a $19-a-year one-page builder to open-source WordPress, and says plainly what each gives up compared with Webflow. If you want the wider picture first, start with our roundup of website builders for technical teams.

This is an editorial research article based on each vendor’s official pricing pages, help centers and documentation, checked on October 17, 2026. We did not build test sites or run our own benchmarks, so there are no speed or SEO performance claims here.

Quick verdict

In our assessment, Framer is the closest like-for-like alternative for design-led marketing sites, with simpler and cheaper entry pricing. WordPress is the choice when you want ownership, portability and an unlimited content model. Wix Studio suits agencies that want a visual editor plus a built-in JavaScript backend. Squarespace trades design freedom for an all-in-one package with commerce built in. Readymag and Carrd cover editorial layouts and simple one-page sites at a fraction of the cost.

Why people look for alternatives to Webflow

  • Layered pricing. Webflow’s Premium Site plan is $25 a month billed yearly ($39 monthly), but seats ($39 a month per full seat, billed yearly), Workspace plans and add-ons are billed on top. Our Webflow review breaks down the full structure.
  • Lock-in. Code export needs a paid Workspace and, according to Webflow’s Help Center, leaves out CMS content, forms, site search, localization and code components.
  • Bandwidth. Premium includes 50 GB a month, down from 100 GB on the old Business plan. More costs extra, for example $174 a month billed yearly for 500 GB in total.
  • Team workflow features. Page branching, single-page publishing and publishing workflows are on the Team plan, which starts at $2,500 a month on an annual contract.
  • Learning curve. The Designer rewards CSS knowledge, which is more than a simple site needs.

Framer

In our assessment, Framer is the closest substitute for Webflow’s marketing-site use case. It has a design-tool canvas with built-in effects and animation, a CMS, managed hosting and, since Framer 3.0 in June 2026, AI agents on every plan. External Agents let Claude Code, Cursor or Codex edit a Framer project directly, without using Framer’s credits.

Best for: designers and startups who want a polished site and fast iteration. Limits: Basic allows 30 pages, 2 CMS collections and 1,000 items; Pro allows 150 pages, 10 collections and 2,500 items, expandable through paid add-ons to 40 collections and 40,000 items. Framer’s Help Center says there is no HTML export for self-hosting, and AI use is metered in credits. Price: Basic is $10 a month and Pro $30 a month, per site, billed yearly. Monthly billing is $15 and $45. Taxes are extra. Our Framer review goes into the detail. Visit Framer

WordPress (self-hosted)

WordPress is open-source software under the GPLv2 or later. The current release is 7.1.3, from October 6, 2026. You get the block editor, more than 75,000 free plugins in the WordPress.org directory, a REST API for headless builds and WP-CLI for scripting. There is no platform cap on content, and your site’s files and database can move to any compatible host.

Best for: developers and teams who want ownership, large or relational content, or plugin-based features such as ecommerce and memberships. Limits: you or your host handle updates and security. Patchstack’s 2026 whitepaper counted 11,334 new WordPress ecosystem vulnerabilities in 2025, 91% of them in plugins. Matching a custom Webflow design usually takes more developer time. Price: the software is free. Hosting costs depend on the provider. For managed hosting without running servers, WordPress.com’s Business plan, which includes SSH, WP-CLI and GitHub deployments, is $25 a month for the first year on a yearly plan and renews at $28 a month ($40 on monthly billing), excluding taxes. Our Webflow vs WordPress comparison covers this choice in depth. Visit WordPress.org

Wix Studio

Wix Studio is Wix’s editor for agencies and professional designers building client sites, with a code-free CMS, SEO and marketing tools and Wix hosting. For developers, Wix provides a JavaScript SDK (which now covers most of what the older Velo APIs did), a managed Node.js backend, a CLI with GitHub integration for working in a local IDE, and an MCP server for AI coding tools.

Best for: agencies that want backend code, business features (bookings, ecommerce, payments) and client handoff in one hosted product. Limits: Wix’s support center says sites must be hosted and operated on Wix’s servers and cannot be exported. Custom code is written against Wix’s APIs, which makes it less portable. Price: Wix Studio site plans are listed at $19 (Basic, 1,500 CMS items), $27 (Standard, 4,000 items), $34 (Plus, 20,000 items) and $159 (Elite, 10 million items) a month. These are yearly subscriptions paid up front and exclude taxes, and Wix’s main plans page notes that prices and currency vary by location. Studio’s pricing page lists unlimited bandwidth. Squarespace

Squarespace is an all-in-one hosted builder with templates, a blog, commerce, scheduling, invoicing, email campaigns and built-in AI tools. It is simpler to run than Webflow, with less fine-grained layout control. Developers should note that the advanced code block (HTML, iframes, JavaScript) and site-wide code injection are not included on the Basic plan.

Best for: small businesses, creatives and service providers who want commerce and bookings without integrating separate tools. Limits: Basic allows two contributors and charges a 2% online store transaction fee and 7% on digital content and memberships. Customisation stays within Squarespace’s template system. Price: on Squarespace’s US pricing page, Basic is $19 a month billed annually ($25 monthly), Core $29 ($39), Plus $49 ($65) and Advanced $99 ($139). Annual plans include a free domain for the first year, which then renews at the standard rate plus taxes. Squarespace shows local currencies and prices in some regions, so check yours. Readymag

Readymag is a design tool for portfolios, studio sites, presentations and landing pages. You start from a blank page or a template and drag, resize, arrange and animate elements, with Figma import, advanced typography controls, custom font uploads, separate desktop, tablet and mobile layouts, and password protection on paid plans.

Best for: designers building editorial or presentation-style pages. Limits: each paid plan caps monthly views: 10,000 on Personal, 25,000 on Freelancer and 75,000 on Advanced across published sites. Code export and iframe embedding are on Advanced only. In our assessment it is not a good fit for large structured content. Price: Personal is $14 a month billed yearly ($19 monthly). Freelancer is normally $29 billed yearly ($38 monthly) but was listed at $14.50 ($19 monthly) as a new-user offer. Advanced is $58.50 billed yearly ($65 monthly). Prices exclude taxes, and students get 50% off. Readymag was also advertising a birthday discount for October 8 to 20, 2026, so confirm the price at checkout. Visit Readymag

Carrd

Carrd builds simple, responsive one-page sites such as personal profiles and landing pages that capture emails. It is deliberately limited, and that keeps it cheap and quick.

Best for: one-page sites, side-project landing pages and email capture. Limits: one page per site. Forms, embeds and custom domains need Pro Standard or above, and site downloads, redirects and password protection need Pro Plus. Price: free for up to three sites with Carrd branding. Pro Lite is $9 a year (premium Carrd URLs, no custom domain), Pro Standard $19 a year (10 sites, custom domains, forms and embeds) and Pro Plus $49 a year (25 sites). Plans can renew automatically or be paid as you go. Visit Carrd

Pricing (as of October 2026)

All prices are in USD and exclude taxes unless noted. “Yearly” means the monthly price when billed annually. Plans are not directly equivalent: some prices are per site, some per account, and limits differ.

How to choose

  1. Decide how much lock-in you can accept. If you must be able to leave with everything, WordPress is the only option here with full portability. Readymag and Carrd export static pages on their higher plans, Framer and Wix do not offer a supported HTML export, and Webflow exports static pages without CMS content.
  2. Size your content. Count collections and items. Framer Basic stops at 2 collections and 1,000 items, Wix Studio’s tiers run from 1,500 to 10 million items, and WordPress has no platform cap.
  3. Match the editor to the people. Designers who want canvas freedom tend to prefer Framer or Readymag. Business owners who want everything in one dashboard may prefer Squarespace or Wix. Developer-led teams often prefer WordPress or Wix Studio for code access.
  4. Price the whole year. Add seats, add-ons, transaction fees, AI credits and renewal prices, not just the headline monthly figure. If the lowest monthly price is the priority, our review of Hostinger’s AI Builder covers another budget option.
  5. Consider whether you need a builder at all. For developer portfolios and documentation, a static site on a Git-based host can be simpler. Our guides to portfolio builders for developers and designers and builders vs WordPress vs custom code cover that route.

Bottom line

There is no single Webflow replacement, because Webflow mixes a design tool, a CMS and a hosting platform. For design-led marketing sites, Framer is the closest match at a lower entry price, provided its CMS limits fit. For ownership and scale, WordPress remains the open option, with maintenance as the cost. Wix Studio and Squarespace trade portability for built-in business features, while Readymag and Carrd cover narrower jobs cheaply. Shortlist two, check the limits that matter for your site, and use the free plans or trials before you migrate anything.
